Key Features

  • Choose the length of term - either a three month, six month or one year term
  • Earn an attractive rate of interest, fixed for the term
  • A minimum opening deposit of £25,000
  • No maximum opening deposit, although deposits of £10 million or more are subject to approval by Bank of Scotland
  • The rate is fixed on the day we open your account
  • The deposit matures on a fixed date so you can plan ahead
  • No additional deposits or withdrawals. Early closure not permitted.
  • How you receive your interest is flexible – it can be paid into another Halifax/Bank of Scotland account, either on maturity or monthly (only if you choose the one year term) or it can be added to your deposit at maturity*

*On the one year deposit, there is the option to have interest paid annually, or monthly at a slightly lower rate. You cannot switch once the account is open. Your interest will either be paid net or gross. If interest is paid net (this means after deduction of income tax, currently 20%), you may claim income tax back from the HM Revenue & Customs if the amount of tax we have taken off is more than you have to pay. Interest will only be paid gross (this means without deduction of income tax, currently 20%), if you are registered with us as a non-taxpayer. A separate registration is required for each account you hold. Interest can also be paid gross on a Fixed Deposit when the account has been opened as a Qualifying Time Deposit. It is your responsibility to declare the account and the interest earned if you are required to do so. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, additional income tax is due on the interest we pay. If your account qualifies as a Qualifying Time Deposit, it will stop qualifying at the end of the investment term and you will no longer be entitled to receive interest gross automatically. For a deposit to qualify as a Qualifying Time Deposit the term must be less than 5 years, the deposit must be at least £50,000 or, where not in Sterling, equivalent to £50,000 in Sterling, no additions or withdrawals can be made and the account must not be closed before the term ends.
